Cabo San Lucas, located in Baja California Peninsula, has been a famous destination for tourists who love to experience the sun while getting soaked in its spectacular beaches. Additionally, several enjoy trying out local restaurants as they become immersed in Mexican food.
As a woman over 50, you’re guaranteed to enjoy its sunny and pleasant weather the entire year. If you’re planning a trip, read this blog to determine the best time to travel to Cabo!
Best Time to Travel to Cabo
The best time to visit Cabo San Lucas is when there are the fewest crowds possible with the weather not too warm. While it’s suggested to visit this tourist destination from May until November, Cabo San Lucas is still a beautiful place for a vacation during the rest of the year.
January
When you plan to start the new year by visiting Cabo San Lucas, be prepared and bring jackets. It has the coolest weather, approximately 54 degrees Fahrenheit, in all twelve months.
You will experience clear blue skies with little to no chance of precipitation, and the weather’s tranquility allows you to enjoy a cool and relaxing vacation. January is also the perfect time to see gray whales escaping from arctic waters.
This is also a nice time to try sports fishing, and you will be able to catch different species, including tuna. Take note that accommodations may still be expensive during this month because it’s still part of peak season right after the holidays.
February
February is still a pretty cold month, and you’ll still need a jacket because mornings are very cold, especially when you want to visit the beach. It is not advisable to scuba dive this month because of the chilly weather, but you can wear a thick wetsuit to do other water activities.
Whale watching is popular this month because it’s when baby humpback whales are active. If you visit the Pacific beaches such as Cerritos or Todos Santos, you and your friends can try surfing. However, expect the water to be chilly. You should also check out the Todos Santos Art Festival annually in February.
March
By the time March comes, the weather will start to warm up. You can still go whale watching during this time. However, note that it’s during March that spring break begins, so accommodations will be jam-packed.
Because it’s the start of the Spring season, the weather becomes warmer with cooler evenings, and it’s the best time to hit the beach for a swim. However, this is not the best month to visit if you don’t fancy large crowds and wild nights.
April
April is still pretty loud and crowded, with students and families reuniting for their Spring break. You may not be seeing any rainfall during this month, and it’s also a great time to go to the beach because the weather is still pleasantly warm.
It’s also the last month of the season for humpback whales, so check that out when you visit! You can usually see them up until mid-April.
If you have companions who love to surf, April is the best month to try surfing on the beaches in the Cortez Sea, Zippers, and The Rock. Don’t forget to join the Festival Sabores de Baja, a food festival showcasing organic and local delicacies in Cabo San Lucas.
May
May is the driest month of the year, and the weather starts to become hotter and humid. You can leave your jackets because you’ll feel the summer season fast approaching. May is the best month to visit Sierra de la Laguna, San Jose Estuary, and the San Jose Art Walk for tourist attractions and adventure parks.
The key events are Cinco de Mayo and Gastrovino Baja Food and Wine Festival. If you book in advance, you will be able to score amazing deals and discounts during this period when the city prepares for the stormy summer weather.
June
June is the best month to visit when you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing vacation with your family. It’s also a great time to snorkel, swim, and lounge by your hotel’s swimming pool.
Additionally, it is the ideal month to fish grouper and snapper. If you enjoy fishing, with the increased rain showers, expect the vegetation to be lush and green, with the waterfalls and rivers more enjoyable. June is also the season of sea turtles hatching, and beaches will be crowded with these creatures laying their eggs.
If you are lucky, your hotel might host a project on sea turtle protection, and you can participate in releasing sea turtles into the sea.
A key event you should not miss during this month is the Stars and Stripes Tournament, an annual fundraising tournament that showcases different activities such as golfing, fishing, and music.
July
During July, the summer weather continues to become hotter, so remember always to bring a tumbler with cold water anywhere you go. The hurricane season will likely start during the month-end, so expect rainy days during your visit.
You can also score amazing deals and discounts on accommodations and tourist attraction packages because crowds are few. July is another great month to surf because the temperature of the water is warm and comfortable enough.
When you wish to visit Cabo San Lucas this month and are a tennis fan, don’t miss out on the Los Cabos Tennis Open. It is one of the most important ATP World Tour Tennis Tournaments in the country.
August
August serves as the start of hurricane season and is one of the wettest and rainiest months of the year. You may experience a tropical storm, so enjoying activities indoors such as cooking classes, shopping, and spa is better.
This month is still sea turtle season, so you can enjoy watching these creatures laying their eggs by the beach. Also, it is still a good time to surf and enjoy other water activities because the water will be warm.
September
You will continue to experience heat and rain showers during September, so you can still spend time swimming in the pool at the beach. In fact, September is the last month of the hurricane season, but it’s also the time to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
During September, one advantage of visiting Cabo San Lucas is the peace and tranquility you’ll experience, especially visiting the beach. If you love fishing, this month is a great time to catch black marlin, blue marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna.
October
Rainfall will decrease during October, and the water temperature will become ideal for diving and other water sports. Expect hotel rates to rise as the city prepares for the peak season. Fishing tournaments are also famous during October, the official start of the Fall season. Some fishing tournaments include Los Cabos Billfish Tournament and Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament.
San Jose del Cabo’s Restaurant Week happens during mid-October, allowing you to experience special local meals in Los Cabos’ top restaurants at affordable rates.
November
November is cooler than October and is ideal to try outdoor activities such as ziplining, horseback riding, and hiking. You can also visit the beach for some water activities to refresh. This month is officially the start of the tourist season, so expect more crowds and higher hotel rates.
This is also the peak month for the Art Walk in San Jose del Cabo. Every Thursday evening, several galleries are open until 9:00 to allow visitors to drink wine while appreciating beautiful artwork and meeting local artists.
During November, other famous key events are Los Cabos Film Festival, which brings together filmmakers, and the Ironman 70.3 Los Cabos.
December
December has the coolest temperature of the entire year, and you might need to bring a light jacket for the cool mornings and evenings. The beach water continues to be warm, making it still ideal for a swim or a dive. The first wave of baby humpback whales is born by the end of December.
A key event during this month is Sabor a Cabo Restaurant and Food Festival, an annual celebration showcasing the top restaurants in the area. This largest food festival features local chefs, delicacies, wine tequila, and music, with the proceeds donated to charities.
Cabo San Lucas is Best for All Occasions
